The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol unit is a twelve-person team comprised of Deputies from the enforcement branch specially trained in boat operation, underwater search, rescue and recovery, and enforcement of boating laws.
The Water Patrol Unit utilizes a fleet of four Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office boats to conduct operations on the Arkansas River, nearby Lake Maumelle, and all other streams, lakes, and bodies of water in Pulaski County. The Water Patrol Unit uses sophisticated SONAR equipment to conduct underwater searches for drowning victims and submerged vehicles and boats.
The Water Patrol Unit members are certified SCUBA divers. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol Unit is the only Pulaski County public safety agency that conducts underwater operations in Pulaski County.
The Water Patrol Unit works closely with the Little Rock and North Little Rock Fire Departments and the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission in order to provide a safe water environment for the citizens of Pulaski County.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol Unit is funded by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission through a portion of recreational boater registration fees and also by federal grant funds.
